Introduction of On-Street Parking
Kilkenny Borough Council have recently adopted revised Parking Control and Car Park Bye-Laws to allow for the introduction of an On-Street Parking System in the near future.
Kilkenny Borough Council Parking Control and Car Park Bye-Laws 2008 take effect from 16th June, 2008. However, there will be a lead in period for implementation to allow for procurement, alterations to road markings, erection of signage and erection of pay and display units on the streets and car parks.
The Scheme will:
1) Reduce congestion in the City Centre.
2) Assist business by increasing availability of on-street parking.
3) Allow residents to park close to their homes.
4) Control Commuter Parking.
The Scheme will provide for:
a) Provision of short-stay spaces in the City Centre
b) Provision of medium stay Spaces in close proximity to the City Centre.
c) Reduction in charges in the public car-parks on the periphery of the scheme.
d) Designation of Residential Areas as access only.
e) Provision of Parking Permits for residents of City Streets.
The excess revenue generated will be used to advance sustainable transport initiatives for the City, provide additional facilities for cyclists and improve pedestrian links and connectivity within the Borough.
Disc Parking will be the system of control on the streets and in some non-barrier operated car parks. Kilkenny Borough Council employs its own traffic wardens to enforce the parking regulations and bye-laws.
